We provide all the core courses you would expect to find in a traditional public high school, ensuring our students receive a strong academic foundation. In addition to these essential subjects, we offer specialty courses tailored to meet the needs of our students and reflect our mission.

1 credit. Full year course focused on developing reading, writing, and language skills that aligns with Washington State 9th grade language arts standards.
1 credit. Full year course focused on developing reading, writing, and language skills that aligns with Washington State 10th grade language arts standards.
1 credit. Full year course focused on developing reading, writing, and language skills that aligns with Washington State 11th grade language arts standards.
1 credit. Full year course. This is our capstone English course; students focus on preparing for college level writing and integrate career skills into their study, writing resumes, college essays, etc.
1 credit. Full year course designed to improve math skills and prepare learners for the more advanced levels of mathematics that are required for graduation.
1 credit. Full year course designed to meet Washington State standards for algebra. Topics include- expressions, equations and inequalities, connections to functions and modeling. These concepts will carry into geometry and Algebra II.
1 credit. Full year course meeting Washington State standards for geometry. Topics include- congruence, similarity, right triangles and trigonometry, circles, expressing geometric properties with expressions and modeling with geometry.
1 credit. Full year course building on skills learned in algebra I, meeting Washington State standards and expanding on the concepts of expressions, equations and inequalities, and connections to functions and modeling. connections to functions and modeling. These concepts will carry into geometry and Algebra II.
1 credit. Full year course meeting Washington State science standards covering a range of life science topics including the cell, evolution, animal species, plants, fungi, and bacteria. Methods of instruction include lab experiments.
1 credit. Full year course meeting Washington State science standards. Topics include- The formation of Earth, Earth’s layers, atmosphere, oceans, weather, natural disasters, freshwater systems, saltwater systems, and the solar system. This course includes laboratory experiments.
1 credit. Full year course meeting Washington State science standards that introduces students to basic scientific concepts. This course is designed as a general overview of scientific topics. This course includes laboratory experiments.
1 credit, Offered As Needed. Full year course meeting Washington State science standards for chemistry. Topics include-atoms, elements, mixtures, solutions, solvents, periodic table of the elements, chemical formulas, equations, etc. This course includes laboratory experiments.
1 credit, Offered As Needed. Full year course meeting Washington State integrated environmental and sustainability standards. This is an applied science course, topics include- ecological, social, and economic systems, the natural and built environment, and sustainability and civic responsibility.
1 credit, Offered As Needed. Full year course meeting Washington State science standards. This is a laboratory course that focuses on the human body’s physical make-up and how it functions. Topics include- organs, organ systems and their functions. Dissections and physical specimens are utilized in instruction. topics include- ecological, social, and economic systems, the natural and built environment, and sustainability and civic responsibility.
1 credit. Full year course meets Washington State US history standards. 1st-semester topics include- pre- Europe’s contact North America, exploration, colonization, revolution, independence, foreign relations, war of 1812, slavery, industrialization, civil war and reconstruction. 2nd semester topics include Westward expansion, labor and industry, imperialism, world wars, post WW2 life in America, cold war, and contemporary events.
1 credit. Full year course that gives students the opportunity to explore recurring themes of human experience common to civilizations around the globe from ancient to contemporary times. Students will examine the historical roots of significant events, ideas, and movements. They will broaden their historical perspectives as they explore ways societies have dealt with continuity and change as exemplified by issues such as war and peace, internal stability and strife, and the development of institutions.
.5 credit. Half-year course meeting Washington State standards for civics. This course taken by seniors includes the topics of- government, citizenship, voting, politics, debate. This course utilizes primary source documents including but not limited to the United States Constitution.
.5 credit. Half-year course is offered to students who did not complete it in 8th grade. Topics include- physical geography of Washington, native tribes, historical figures, and key events of the state’s history.
1 credit. Full year course designed to introduce students to the Spanish language. Topics include vocabulary, pronunciation, conversation in Spanish, and proper Spanish grammar.
1 credit. Full year course building on the concepts learned in Spanish I. This course will introduce higher level conjugation of verbs and further development of students conversational Spanish.
Offered By Request. This Spanish class is often taken by our bilingual Spanish-speaking students. This course is designed around the learner who is fluent or nearly fluent in Spanish. It focuses on reading and writing to develop a well-rounded user of the Spanish language.
.25 credit. This course is offered quarterly and meets Washington State standards for art. Students learn by doing in this course that includes- painting, drawing, etching, watercolors, etc.
.25 credit. This course explores the world of photography. Students utilize SLR cameras to experience the key principles of taking great pictures. They will learn about- aperture, shutter speed, white balance, perspective, and iPhone photography.
.5 credit, Offered By Request. This course is only offered as an independent study. The topics of study meet Washington State standards of wellness, safety, nutrition, sexual health, social-emotional health, and substance use and abuse.
.25 credit. This course is offered quarterly. Students develop a sense of empowerment by improving physical fitness through activities that meet Washington State standards of competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
Offered as Needed. This course is our most dynamic as it often is only offered to 1 or 2 students at a time. This allows it to be very individualized. Topics can include business mathematics, entrepreneurship, wood working, office assistant, teacher assistant.
1 Credit. This full-year course is a staple in Eastside Academy’s line-up of classes. Known at school as “recovery” this course is taught by a mental health professional. The focus of the class is to improve mental health and support sobriety through a group class setting. This class is required at all times for all students.
1 Credit. This full-year class is known at Eastside Academy as “advisory” during this class students experience career exploration, study hall, chapel, chapel response, and group team building activities. This course is required at all times for all students.

Eastside Academy was created as a refuge and place of growth for high school students who may not fit the mold of traditional schools.
Individualized Plans
Upon acceptance, students’ preexisting credits are audited and we create a personalized course load to get each student to graduation.
Experienced Teachers
Credit Recovery
When students enroll at Eastside Academy with a credit deficit, we offer independent study opportunities to help them catch up. Their progress is closely monitored and guided by their teachers.
Tutoring
Eastside Academy offers regular tutoring by dedicated community members who provide personalized academic support. This extra help empowers students to overcome challenges and succeed in their studies.
Accountability
Students are held to a high standard by all staff for their behavior, academics, and commitment to personal growth.
